MOJO / Empire / KERRANG! / + …

Multi-Title Editorial Art Direction

Overview /

High-profile titles such as MOJO, Empire, and Kerrang! require a sophisticated balance of brand authority and cultural resonance.

The strategic challenge lay in engineering editorial features and promotional systems that matched established user mental models while maintaining visual innovation.

By translating complex cultural narratives into structured, high-utility layouts, the work ensured that content remained emotionally resonant, navigable, and authoritative across music, film, and live event sectors.

Role /

Creative direction and visual narrative orchestration across a portfolio of high-visibility editorial brands and special projects.

Responsibilities included establishing the visual strategy for complex feature architecture and cross-channel marketing collateral, ensuring every output balanced high-level creative ambition with editorial logic and stringent brand guardianship.

Brief /

The development of bespoke, multi-platform design systems for major editorial brands and live cultural environments. The requirement was to capture the distinct "soul" of each publication while delivering high-impact, clear communication across saturated print, digital, and physical touchpoints.

Solution /

The construction of modular visual frameworks for individual features and integrated campaigns utilised typographic hierarchy and considered image curation to manage cognitive load within complex stories.

Design strategies were engineered to align with audience psychology, cinematic and high-scale for film, energetic and subversive for music, and precise where clarity was paramount.

These systemic principles were extended into large-format posters and event collateral, ensuring a seamless brand experience from the page to real-world cultural touchpoints.
