MOJO / Empire / KERRANG! / + …

Multi-Title Editorial Art Direction

Overview /

Readers come to titles like MOJO, Empire and Kerrang! for authority, excitement and cultural relevance. Each brand has a fiercely loyal audience with clear expectations about tone, taste and credibility.

The challenge was to create editorial features and promotional design that felt fresh and visually arresting while still belonging unmistakably to each publication’s world. Across music, film and live events, the work translated complex stories, personalities and cultural moments into layouts and visuals that were engaging to read, easy to navigate and emotionally in tune with each audience.

Role /

Art direction and lead designer across multiple high-profile editorial brands and special projects. Responsible for shaping the visual approach to feature spreads, cover-adjacent packages and marketing collateral, ensuring each piece balanced creative ambition with editorial clarity, production realities and brand consistency.

Brief /

Develop bespoke feature designs and supporting marketing visuals for major editorial titles and live cultural events, across both print and digital. Each project needed to capture the distinct voice of its publication while attracting attention on crowded shelves, feeds and promotional channels.

Solution /

Created tailored visual systems for individual features and campaigns, combining strong typography, considered image treatment and clear editorial hierarchy to guide readers through complex stories.

Design approaches shifted to match each audience, cinematic and bold for film, energetic and attitude-led for music, clean and authoritative where clarity mattered most. Across events and marketing, the same principles were extended into posters, adverts and collateral, ensuring a consistent experience from page to real-world touchpoints.
